Woodside’s massive Scarborough gas development is dealt a major blow, with the Federal Court finding an environmental plan for part of the project was not legally approved and was therefore invalid.
Key points:
- Woodside has been told part of its environmental plan for the Scarborough gas project is invalid
Ok
- The company was hoping to start underwater surveying this month
Ok
- Woodside says it will face significant costs if the testing is delayed
Ok
I’m not super keen on this whole mentality of ‘let’s burn all the fossil fuels while we still can before public opinion reaches a critical mass that finally puts an end to it for Australia’. But, I’m pragmatic enough to realise that we can’t do all our power generation with renewables, yet. So if we are going to burn some fossil fuels, let’s do it with as minimal impact on the environment as possible. And this threshold is not for the mining company to decide. Sorry Woodside, we don’t trust you to tell us “this is the best we can do”.
@Nath @LineNoise if we’re on a forward path to renewables/carbon negative we shouldn’t need to dig new holes in the ground.
