Canadian wildfire smoke is infiltrating the Midwest on Tuesday and the air in Chicago has deteriorated to the Air Quality Index’s “very unhealthy” category.

The AQI in hazy Chicago reached 250 on Tuesday afternoon. Any number over 100 is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups.

We see the haze here in mid-Michigan too, along with the smell of burning, kind of like a paint smell. Had to keep the family mostly indoors today.

Mid-Ohio, seeing the haze as well. Figures it was from Canada with the smell in the air. Wishing the responders to the wildfires all the best in smothering the flames.

I used to live in Oregon and had to bear the wildfire smoke several summers, sometimes for months. We moved to Wisconsin a few years ago and the lack of wildfires was one of the upsides… and yet, here we are back in the smoke. ugh.
