There is no way something so yummy and habit forming is consequence-free.
IDK if they even made the virtual one a reality yet.

A coworker of mine had to sign up for ID.me to get some money back from the IRS and in their TOS, they state that they sell your data. So even straight up government institutions are in on this shit.

I agree. We’re probably gonna balkanize as armed right wing groups fight for dominance (they’re the only ppl organized and ready for this sort if thing) while China/Russia may try to install some compliant comprador government at the top when all the dust settles. The rest of us will be hurled into an agrarian mode of production growing soybeans for the world bc nobody will care for dollars anymore.
