Tankies aren’t monolithic, but the fact that so many of them idealize the modern-day imperialist government of Russia (and its right-wing ideology) indicates that they are either misguided or insincere in their stated beliefs. Opposition to the West is given more priority than actual leftism, even if it means endorsing fascism. Putin’s Russia represents the closest extant mirror to the idea of the USSR, if not its ideology, so it is idealized as its inheritor rather than its antithesis.

Similar is seen with China and its modern-day embrace of globalism and capital, despite still ostensibly having a communist government. It’s all about the aesthetics of the revolution, original intent be damned.

Live service games that become successful can make billions of dollars, so everyone is trying to be the next big one. Having a ton of concurrent live service projects is the “throw shit at a wall and see what sticks” strategy. They expect most to fail but hope that the 1 that succeeds makes up for it and then some.

And while there are some days where my “I just want to walk as far as I can” instinct has me wishing for bigger game worlds, at the same time it can be a bad experience when the game tells you that you have to go somewhere and it’s either a slog to get there or you fast travel and skip the world entirely.

I definitely see your point. A good game is not just the tools that make it, but the vision to use them the right way.

People still love Fallout New Vegas, even though it was built on the same tools as Fallout 3 (and most other Bethesda games), but that’s because Obsidian were able to build a better game out of those tools than Bethesda could.

I know it’s cool to call out Bethesda for how buggy their engine is, but Starfield launched relatively bug-free. It’s the gameplay systems, story, and repetitive world design people had issues with. A better developer could probably make a better game out of Starfield’s tech.

Assuming people bother to read more than the headlines, or trust news to not put their own spin on things. The title of this post, and the BBC article it links to, are just “Arrests after Charles Darwin grave spray-painted”. It doesn’t even mention who or why until you get into the body of the article, which tragically few people will bother to do these days.

I suggested that people could use throwaway temporary email accounts if they didn’t want to risk using their real email to register for Sony’s annoying forced PSN registration for their PC games.

I’ve shared a few hot takes here and there on Lemmy so I am surprised that this one ended up being my lowest (so far).

I don’t know if I was downvoted for angering the Sony fans by notion that there could be security concerns with PSN, or people who disliked the suggestion that they didn’t have to use their real emails to still register for an account, or both.
