There’s some structural reasons (the senate, primarily) that American politics will almost inevitably devolve into two parties.

Remember that Obama and Biden both could have gutted ICE but they didn’t. Obama in particular didn’t push for universal healthcare or comprehensive immigration reform because he wanted to “save political capital” which he never actually spent.

I heard a report on Democracy Now! from a Houston neurosurgeon who is in Gaza for Doctors Without Borders and it was horrifying. He treated a young man who was shot in the neck while waiting for food at an aid station, the man will be paralyzed for the rest of his life. One of this doctor’s colleagues is an orthopedic surgeon who has had to amputate arms and legs from kids who are 7-8 years old.

As an example, my dad and his five siblings grew up on a farm in Minnesota, and not a single one of them stayed farmers. Every one of them decided life in the city and getting a college degree was better than getting up at 5 to milk cows and collect eggs.
