41·14 days agoLike at this point, a foreign national will control the U.S. military anyway. Either Elon or Iran, which one is worse?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most horribly aged comedy film of the 2000's?
52·15 days agoIdk I either thought they were funny back then and still do, or I didn’t think they were and they still aren’t. My taste really hasn’t changed

Obama just said he wouldn’t give him a pardon, but the administration did say they would give him legal protections and thought he would get a fair trial. One thing to remember is that we typically have 3 branches of government. These days, not so much it feels like
Omg they still haven’t finished Case Closed?! 🫢 I abandoned that as a preteen and literally I’m mid life right now

News@lemmy.world•Third person arrested in death of Tasia Fortune, as police say hanging was staged
4·21 days agoOf course they get to the bottom of the staged lynchings. What about the real ones though? Do those ever get solved? Surely they can’t all be staged

World News@lemmy.world•Not your imagination: from backpacks to food, consumer goods are getting worseEnglish
4·24 days agoI was just saying how I remember back in the day you could get nice quality jeans, like 99-100% cotton, normally priced. But now the jeans I used to get are considered “luxury jeans” and cost over $200. No exaggeration because I’ve been on the hunt for moderately priced, good jeans for years now

A Boring Dystopia@lemmy.world•And age discrimination laws and regulations only protect the old
2·25 days agoNah, we still need to vote. I’ve seen a lot of anti-voting propaganda lately, all conveniently before midterms.

A Boring Dystopia@lemmy.world•And age discrimination laws and regulations only protect the old
11·25 days agoWe need to vote these people out. We need to also vote with our wallets. And if it’s necessary then we riot for a change. People have rioted for less, tbh

Technology@lemmy.world•California governor signs order pushing for an AI 'kill switch'English
7·28 days agoExactly. I often wonder why people who have no idea about how technology works get to decide rules on it. Nor will they partner with experts…partnering with Zuckerberg or Altman certainly doesn’t fucking count

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Your Computer Might Demand Your Age Soon, No Matter Where You Live
18·1 month agoThe only thing I’m most worried about is losing my job over non compliance. I can handle not participating in society. But if that’s what it takes to draw the line, I’m really considering it now and finding an alternative way to live. It’s dumb that this can even be allowed. But at this point, it’s obvious that the top just wants wage slaves to exploit in every way possible. I can’t imagine my kids growing up like that, ya know? It’s got to stop

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Your Computer Might Demand Your Age Soon, No Matter Where You Live
7·1 month agoIt is appalling, but I could see parents from 20 years ago being less concerned than now. Of course back then they weren’t aggregating user data to today’s level, at least I don’t think.
What bothers me too are things like Palintir. Like, I don’t want my kid in some massive police database before they even turn 12

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Your Computer Might Demand Your Age Soon, No Matter Where You Live
25·1 month agoI’m 100% not convinced that it will stay this way. This, to me, is a push towards ID verification. Age verification is a first step. To me, it feels more like a step towards building an infrastructure to track any user

It’s tough to prevent that type of culture when art organizations aren’t even disallowing the use of AI anymore.
