  • odd ones on my feeds but i was hit explore and click on Art & Crafts i have 3 options

I think the best thing about feeds is that everyone can have their own. Private or public. So if one would like their “arts” feed to have a different set of communities than someone else put in theirs, one can create their own one. And if most of us set our private feeds as private, we won’t have a mess of those

each community could select what categories they relate to and be automatically added to that “Feed”

So basically, if feeds could be populated based on comms’ tags (with an option for instance mods to tag existing, external comms too), we could have feeds being semi-auto-curated.
Or maybe topics could be comm-agnostic and just follow Mastodon and Piefed tags of the posts?
The reports would require a way to flag and review the feature, though

  • My 2¢: the phones spying on us is not done via listening to our microphones but linking ads cookies with IPs and location etc. Turning a microphone off won’t prevent from that “now I’m getting the ads for the thing we just talked about” experience. And I think, in general we shouldn’t be getting any ads on top of the newsletters we opt-in

I don’t mean to say “don’t put a mic off switch in”, just debunking that myth. Because the real battle (with ads. For sure some spying agencies do use the mic but that’s another battle) is on cookies, spying pixels, etc. Not the microphone

  • I guess you might want to ask this question in one of the self-hosting communities (there’s a bunch that are active, so I’m not linking one)

But getting back to the topic:

    • jellyfin needs very little
I’m running mine on a laptop with 4 threads at 2.6GHz and on 8GB of RAM it was fine with a bunch of other stuff running
    • OwnCast
IDK but for personal use I’d expect to also have low requirements
    • Minecraft server
That part I’m not sure about. I’d expect it to be a bit more demanding
    • play some steam games
I understand you’ll be running those on another computer and only streaming via OwnCast, so that goes back to earlier point

  • I think it’s because of the frame reaching half a mm or so above the screen and the battery cover opening up when I drop it.

I don’t know where and I don’t remember when but I’ve seen some investigation that phones with detachable covers and batteries survive falls better because those moving parts disperse the energy of the fall better, instead of all the shock going into the next stress point - the screen or the glass on the back
