  • I have. The plug in play systems are incredibly dangerous for both the home and the grid is not installed correctly. The biggest thing is killing linemen from the backfeed, putting dirty power on the grid, or catching your house on fire.

    The most common way people add these is on an existing circuit, which can overload the wires downstream to a high load device causing a fire. They should only be installed into a dedicated circuit for this reason, and it’s your are at that point you might as well install an acually full solar system.

    These small ones that i would consider safe for in use circuits would be like 200watt systems, and at that point you are only saving $30/month at Best. It’s not worth the hassle.

    As far as carbon footprint, the battery systems are the biggest contributor, and they are lucky to last 5 years on cheap systems. The panel itself will be carbon friendly faster a few years so there is no knocking that part.
