I mean ladybird certainly would be lowest tier, considering you first have to compile yourself 😂 also it’s pre alpha state…
But it’ll be interesting to see how far they’ve come on 1 year

Well actually: “It was originally an initialism used in U.S. Army paperwork for items made of galvanized iron.[2] The earliest known instance in writing is from either 1906[3] or 1907.[2]” Also later on re-interpreted as “government issued” etc. but I guess today it just means US army soldier
it’s being answered in the github thread you linked. Sorry that this is not enough for you but it’s enough for most people: “For people who are concerned about this sort of thing, you can enable sealed sender indicators in the settings”
The amount of trolls in this thread that either try to spew false information intentionally or just have no idea what they are talking about is insane.
If you are worried about what data (including your phone number) law enforcement can recieve (if they have your specific user ID, which is not equal to your phone number) from the Signal company check this: https://propertyofthepeople.org/document-detail/?doc-id=21114562 Tldr: It’s the date of registration and last time user was seen online. No other information, Signal just doesn’t have any other and this is by design.
If you want to know more about how they accomplish that feat you can check out the sealed sender feature: https://nerdschalk.com/what-is-sealed-sender-in-signal-and-should-you-enable-it/
or the private contact discovery system: https://signal.org/blog/private-contact-discovery/
Also as Signal only requires a valid phone number for registration you might try some of these methods (not sure if they still work): https://theintercept.com/2024/07/16/signal-app-privacy-phone-number/
Idk man some here might begin to think you have a drug problem and sexual uncertainty on top. No judging tho
btw. Metro 2033 Redux also for free on Steam.
Also on a side note, one of the coolest milsim/tactic shooters in recent years is also on sale: Insurgency Sandstorm. It even gets a big map/weapons update next week.
There is some interesting stuff to find. I didn’t know the German ministry of interior is building its own FOSS matrix based messenger, lol https://gitlab.opencode.de/bwi/bundesmessenger/info
I was also sceptical but it seems to be generally true, however the details of it are way more complicated. Read for yourself if you know German or use a translator, one of the biggest Berlin newspapers picked it up and added details : https://www.tagesspiegel.de/berlin/nach-beteiligung-an-palastina-protesten-in-berlin-drei-eu-burgern-und-einem-studenten-aus-den-usa-droht-ausweisung-13468543.html
It’s true, most of your comments seem to have a positive upvote score and therefore more upvotes than downvotes. Your Yale comment seems to have attracted the most downvotes in recent time, currently “-14” “upvotes”/points (seems that some lemmy clients just call them “points”)
So actually it seems that currently Lemmy itself doesnt support showing one users total upvotes/downvotes as this would very much resemble the reddit Karma system and they dont want that.
However as all your comments and the total sum of votes for each comment(I think also the bare numbers of upvotes/downvotes are visible via Api access) are public one could theoretically write a script or build this into a Lemmy client. However the 3 clients I just used to test this don’t support this and probably don’t want to.
I am proud subscriber since many years and I can say without a doubt the overall best tech/science news page and even most importantly “community”. Like the comments in each article add so much entertainment and knowledge, often I gind myself reading more comments than news on Ars. So many smart commentors it’s really a good place.
I love that you link Obtanium. This is the first time I saw an app dev actually linking to Obtanium. Getting your FOSS app update directly from the git repos without the google bs around it just seems logical.
yeah definitely salmon egg would be the wrong kind of egg
This kinda sounds so stupid I had to fact check it.
Haven’t heard about this project before. I was using a self hosted Nextcloud instance so far. What would be the benefit of switching to immich? I guess immich does have some advances features, like the tagging was mentioned, specifically for picture management.
I just learned that before their fundraising round Bluesky called themselves a “public benefit LLC” and I thought thats nice of them to benefit the public 😅 , then I found out about US corporate law and what it actually means…
At least link the full article and not just the headline… smh. Here is also the follow-up article with comments from Firefox’s CTO. https://www.heise.de/en/news/Firefox-defends-itself-Everything-done-right-just-poorly-communicated-9802546.html

I’m not aware there is such a list. Logically it’s mostly small countries where they speak their own languages where no big corporations that produce ads have any interest in. You probably will find some comment like mine where they mention certain countries but this can always change any day. Sometime there is a single advetiser in a country but even then you will see their ad much less frequently than the common US/English based ads.
I can recommend you the Nord Vpn Firefox addon which allows you to only use vpn for certain domains which would be anything with *.twitch.tv
Same as on other platforms twitch ads are location based or in this case ip geo location. They are notoriously fighting ad blockers and have long been opting into ad stream injection which is why most common ad blocking techniques won’t work. Basically after all the custom script solutions, like vaft script, started failing l started testing around with VPN taking advantage of the location based aspect of ads. Basically there are countries where noone is paying for running ads. E.g. Czech republic. So basically the most secure way to block ads on twitch is Vpn to certain countries. However I noticed that you need to use IPs from that country for about a day. It seems they are caching your Ip for some but after that you wont get any ads. You can read about all known ad solutioms of twitch here: https://github.com/pixeltris/TwitchAdSolutions
Also this does not work with the twitch mobile app and neither with the mobile version of twitch in a mobile browser. However it does work when switching to the desktop version in your mobile browser. So desktop version while using vpn on your phone should work. At least when I tested it last.
luckily u didn’t suggest to cut the cheese 😅 cheese is life, I can eat less beef but not my cheeeeeese 🙃
