271·4 days agoAt this point Gabe Newell (Valve CEO) should tell Lisa Su (AMD CEO) to move aside and step down cause he and his team at Valve are doing more work for AMD’s software/drivers than AMD themselves as far as I can tell anyways.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What video essay did you watch recently that left an impression on you?English
17·4 days agoThe one that I will probably never forget is Metropolis (2001): How Capitalism Produces Fascism by Chumpy.
It demonstrates and explains why authoritarians like Trump try to enrage the populace. That and it shows how capitalism inevitably creates fascism.
I probably won’t forget this till I bite the dust.
lmao thanks😂

THE POLICE PROBLEM@lemmy.world•With more ICE raids happening at a very faster rate, what do you think of self-defense and community defense organizing)?English
6·10 days agoI’m in favor of taking @TropicalDingdong’s approach, unity with community building similar to Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding where you reconnect humanity with each other.

Linux@programming.dev•11.37%. Now we're talking.English
19·10 days agoAs much as I’d like the marketshare to be 11% I’m quite skeptical of this counting.
Until StatCounter can provide details on how the heck they’re determining the percentages I’d personally recommend against using their stats.
Currently for now I’d recommend using Steam/Valve’s user percentage counter as their breakdown provides more clarity.

While I personally don’t believe in the existence of gods or any supernatural beings, if others want to believe in it I think it’s fine.
If people encroach on other’s choices that’s where I’ll personally draw the line.
- aka don’t force others to make the same choices as yourself. Don’t become Microslop.

Technology@lemmy.world•AI insiders seek to poison the data that feeds themEnglish
412·13 days agoIn addition to poisoning with bad data, I’d recommend adding logic gates where both recipient and sender tests each other in the definition and understanding of trust and consent which is a major thorn against the corporations, CEOs, and conservatives.

Cool Guides@lemmy.ca•A cool guide to move away from big tech and discover new and better tools!English
77·13 days agoIt’s unfortunate but I’d recommend removing Firefox, Protonmail, Duckduckgo.
- Librewolf is better, SearXNG is more trustworthy than DDG.
I personally wouldn’t recommend ZorinOS, Ubuntu, and Pop!OS.
- Linux Mint is a solid recommendation.
- EndeavourOS is also pretty good.
- Arch Linux (base) is getting really good due to improvements to archinstall.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Has Canada's government done anything concrete to reduce dependence on the US since Trump took office? Maybe even since the first term?English
7·13 days agoI get it and I fully agree; Carney giving Trump the bird is obviously not the play to make.
At the same time, clapping for the attack on Venezuela and capturing Maduro. Like what the fuck. Was that really needed?
Why comment at all, giving praise was even foolhardy as internationally Canada looks to be on the wrong side of history.
Feigning ignorance or saying something on the lines of “My staff and I are currently looking into the implications of this rapidly changing situation.” would have honestly been better IMO.
Someone out there would have probably had better moves than Carney’s missteps.
Again I don’t disagree with your points, I just feel that Carney’s been making mistakes intentionally or accidentally one after another.

2·13 days agoChess and Among Us strats.
As the king becomes the fool and destroys his own castle, prioritize establishing relations with foreign nations built on the basis of historical reputation and long term trust.
When the fool asks "Hey how come you: brought Christmas fruitcake!? / didn’t reply or show up for my party!?
Malicious compliance and/or ignorance: "Sorry bro I:
- thought this was what you meant🤷♂️(🤪)"
- was busy but hope it was good👍"
This is the basics of what anyone could do, obviously there are better methods and plans out there.

69·13 days agoI would say that I and fellow Canadians are trying but for our government I’d say that Mark Carney is kowtowing and kissing Trump’s ring.
In a way I’m at least glad that we don’t have Pierre
PoilievreDipshit in charge because he would’ve already hung Canadians to die at the mercy of Trump. At the same time though, Mark Carney is a total loser🖕
I wish we had our own Zohran Mamdani leading Canada :/

privacy@lemmy.ca•'Worst in Show' CES products include AI refrigerators, AI companions and AI doorbellsEnglish
14·13 days agoI’ve crossposted this here to hopefully increase awareness in the invasion of privacy via wifi/AI integrated items. Please check out the comments in the previous thread.
Women in particular should take the time to consider if wifi/AI is actually needed in sex toys and other gadgets to buy.

I wish your comment wasn’t downvoted as it is fair.
While this community is hosted on our Canadian instance, I believe that it’s still fair to post here as we (for better or for worse, currently worse) share close borders with the US and in the PC parts marketspace; generally whatever happens in the US tends to have effects up here as well.
Extras:
Funnily enough in this case however; Trump’s decision will likely make markets outside the US better, Why?: well American companies themselves will likely redirect incoming parts to other nations as the tarrif cost will be difficult to bear in such short notice.
For my American friends, this really blows and I’m sorry :/
For those who I know, when I’ve got time I’ll try to calculate if it’s worth shipping parts into the US from Canada. It’s so stupid that THIS is the timeline we’re living in.
