seanblxck@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's the worst you ever hurt yourself as a kid?3·14 days agoI was playing cricket in the driveway with some neighbour-friends. There were three of us and each took turns to be bowler, batter, and fielder.
As an aside, I was quite a good cricketer when I was young and was eager to show my skills to my friends so when the ball was hit high and far over my head I ran as fast as I could to catch it.
I kept my eyes on the ball, head turned over my shoulder, impossible to see anything in front of me. After a second or three, I looked forward to get my bearings and as soon as I did the back of an old, metal bakkie (pickup truck I suppose) appeared out of nowhere.
I ran straight into it, face first. I remember looking down, through tears, at my hands where the blood pouring out of my mouth and pooling in my hands. The blood was flecked with a curious white substance that I later found out was half of my front tooth reduced to a fine powder.

But only if what op describes is actually happening. If this is an entirely imagined scenario then probably that paranoia other have mentioned.

seanblxck@lemmy.worldto Movies@lemmy.world•Denis Villeneuve announced as new James Bond directorEnglish10·24 days agoHonestly, I’m quite hopeful for his version of Bond. His films are phenomenal, his adaptations have hit the nail as close-to-centre as imaginably possible. He has had great reverence for the character since a child.
I think he will do right by what is expected from the genre while pushing Bond into fresh territory and away from the potential misogynist traps (not to say that Daniel Craig’s films were especially bad at this). AND he’ll obviously have a hand in the new casting which should be fascinating.
Having said that, I’m weary of Bond beyond Villeneuve mostly because of Amazon. They don’t give a shit about legacy, only ROI. Villeneuve, now, has the clout to demand total creative control but think about the subsequent movies… think about the eventual spin-offs… I shudder.
I do tend to agree. As someone with little international politics accumen, is anyone able to explain why Israel has this seeming ‘untouchable’ status? Or at least why countries are so reticent in their calling out of Israel’s atrocities?
Why?
