I recall some 50s or 60s sci-fi story where FTL was really easy to discover but for whatever reason humanity just didn’t, so a bunch of aliens invaded in wooden steamships.
ah yeah could have been a parody of any HFY trends in scifi at the time (i must confess i dont really know anything about what was popular within the scifi genre within the 50s/60s)
