This announcement comes a few days after they took the town. They are already at the first line at some places (if you consider what they just went through the zero line). They are now working on reaching it for a nice 100km or so stretch. Reports are already showing them arriving in Verbove and fighting for Novaprokopivka. I don’t think it will take them more than a week to start actively breaching those trenches if they keep up the same pressure and pace and don’t decide to focus elsewhere on the front.

While all Ukrainian advances are of couse very welcome news I’d rather err on the safe side. At least in here it’s been on the news that progress has been somewhat slow since they need to keep the front line wide enough for the support to have room to work with. So, even if they don’t make 100km in the next few days or even weeks it doesn’t mean much, Ukraine is just covering their backs and sides so that they can hold what they’ve achieved.

Slow and steady has been the game for months now and media tends to paint a bit optimistic picture of the time frame and simplify the whole operation quite a bit. We just need to be patient and support them however we can as long as it takes. Ukraine has proven over and over again that they know what they’re doing or at very least learning at fast pace what needs to be done and correcting whenever needed.
