A bullshit oath demand should be met with a bullshit oath giving. If you are an atheist, who cares about the oath?
I would personally find it very offensive
What part of it is offensive?
Just the last line.
Yeah, I suppose it implies a level of immorality but asking someone to swear an oath requires a commitment to “so help me god”. If you don’t believe then the oath is not meaningful.
It goes against my integrity of being dishonest. Making me do an oath I know is bullshit nonsense is still forcing me into the position of agreeing to this nonsense.
That’s where black and versus shades of grey come in. The people forcing the oath are acting immorally or at least nonsensically which begs the question of whether the people taking it should return the compliment. A black and white person will say an oath is an oath where a shades of grey person will be less committed.
Bingo.
I’ve always found it remarkable that religious people think they need the help of their god in order to keep promises.
According to their own beliefs, the threat of eternal punishment in Hell is the ONLY THING stopping them from being raping, murdering, pyromaniac, baby-eating monsters. They can’t comprehend how anyone else can be decent human beings without the threat of damnation looming over them to keep them from becoming the abominations they really are.
What’s wrong with being a pyromaniac? Playing with fire is fun!
And he clearly sucks at it
Freedom to practice anything, as long as it’s the state approved religion?
Uhh. That’s only acceptable in religious schools. Now I see why they’re doing it…
So help me dog
