A Bluesky post

USPS changed policy on when they postmark mail. Mail dropped off is no longer guaranteed a same-day postmark. Tax returns & other time-sensitive items are now stamped when they reach a regional processing center, which may be days later. Plan deadlines accordingly to avoid penalties.

    For anything important you should already be paying to have a record of when you mailed it and tracking. Even if the post mark is later, the receipt of when you handed responsibility to USPS will be helpful for proving you did what you were expected and can’t control the mail’s services

        Most things don’t really matter and don’t need to be but if you had something you needed to get somewhere and prove you sent it by a deadline then sending certified has always been recommended

          Yes you’re missing the point: before this many places accepted postdate as good enough for most purposes. This is now forcing more things to have to be certified mail
