Basically what the title says. I want to understand how imperialism has developed since Lenin’s analysis. The things that remain foundational to imperialism regardless of time, and the ways it has changed its form during different periods.
I’ve read Tricontinental’s Hyper-Imperialism article, (though I’ll be doing a reread by the end of this) which is a good modern overview of the functions of modern imperialism, but I need to understand how it has evolved to thus point and why.
I know I’ll be starting out with Lenin’s Imperialism: The Highest Stage of Capitlism and will at some point need to read Nkrumahs Neocolonialism, ending with the Tricontinental article around the end. But I want to know what you read in between these texts to form a better idea of the chronology of Imperialist stages.
highly recommend this piece by cheng enfu. would be a good read right after lenin, since they’re directly related
I’ve been meaning to read some of Cheng Enfu’s work, this I’d as good excuse as any to get started.
Another post from today is relevant: https://hexbear.net/post/7308179
Please have a look at this medievalist’ take. I suggest this as a little intermission from your very serious pile; it’s short, it’s fun, and to the point. You won’t learn a ton on modern imperialism, but she connects the dots on how we look at imperialism today, and yesterday, and why it matters.
Thank you, I’ll make sure to check it out.
Paul Sweezy’s Theory of Capitalist Development, in particular chapter 17 ‘Imperialism’, though the whole book is very good. Internet Archive link to the book: https://archive.org/details/in.ernet.dli.2015.461479/page/n313/mode/2up
I’ll look into the relavent chapters! Thanks for the link.
