Mods, how did you guys set the daily jokes in the daily chat threads on Reddit? Did the bot allow you to set it every day, or do you guys run some prepared script?

Because there’s a big risk vector on small instances if the news about FB joining federation is real. I’m already hearing speculation that Eugen (Masto guy) met with FB because FB is planning to throw money at instances like his so federating with FB will not kantoikan his servers with traffic. Speculation because with NDA signed no one is saying anything publicly.
So 1-2 punch rn, between reddit being what it is and everyone else is still getting their bearings and Zuckerberg making moves.
Does that mean if they do that, meta service like fb and insta will be able to link up with fediverse?
@Annoyed_Crabby we don’t know the full details yet on how (i did share on cafe about 2 days ago what details we have like the proposed instance name) but short answer is yes. Details indicate that it’s going to be a bridge for its Instagram side where it exports to a (likely) Masto instance. And Fedi accounts can follow there. And from there, well, it spiders outwards… Once they get boosted, then which instance picks it up etc. And because how masto works on the backend every change propagates down and upline. That’s how u can accidentally DDoS small instances and webhosts if something gets too popular (it’s happened, and that’s with pre-reddit population size, lol)
I’d imagine that would be a death of small instance, both getting overloaded and their user will simply use meta. Damn it’s gonna get messier

Then of course, before you guys discovered the place, mastodon.social had to be silenced or defed a few times already because open signups+ popularity = spammers sending crypto DMs across Fedi lol. They had to do the same thing every time: close registration and then manually clear out the accounts (they can’t afford to be cincai the way other places can once they get big; Fedi does also run a lot on reputation + if you suggest, ah then you join mastodon.social lor, sure will kena)

do y’all still wear masks when out and about? I like that I don’t have to deal with overzealous nose hair every two days with it on
Speaking of nose hair, there are a few (around 3-5, idk) follicles in my left nostril that always produce extra THICCC hair. It isn’t a cosmetic issue per se, but those strands somehow tickle and make me super uncomfortable. Everytime I have to use tweezers to pluck them out but those big boiz are so tenacious. Using scissors is a bad idea as I want to preserve those useful strands.
On the other hand, the right one is fine, I mean, literally fine, like baby hair, can be left unattended. They do the job they’re supposed to do, with some mucus attached, blocking harmful airborne particles protecting delicate lungs. I guess, the imbalance growth of nose hair is because of my left testicle secretes more testosterone than my right one… nah I’m just merepek.
I have apermanent white, thick strand in my right nostril. Pluck it, ad it will regrew again in a few weeks.
Only when crowded indoor space like mall or something, otherwise i don’t wear it anymore as i’m always i place with good ventilation or with no crowd.
On public transport because its still mandated and when I go to meetings with clients.

It has really become a habit for me that I sometimes continue to wear masks in the car(I wear masks for long hours at work, so I’m pretty used to it) and my family/friends will question why I’m still wearing a mask 😂

Slowly phasing out right now. I don’t wear them as often outdoors if there aren’t a lot of people, but I still wear them when it’s crowded or indoors.
I still do because large mask can hide my double chin

Someone already built a python API for lemmy!
I think the Lemmy community will be expanding really fast, really soon. I work with .NET C#, but I used to work with python in uni(altho I was the frontend guy) so combined with the knowledge j can get from the other Lemmy bot repository that someone else shared, maybe I can eventually make a bot for our community 🤔
Open offer: If anyone writes a script that uses this API to do something useful for monyet.cc, and you can pack it up as a cronjob + python file, we’d be happy to host it for you!
Please get it working and stable on your own machine before handing it to us though. Since this is untrusted python code we have to review your script manually, and I don’t want to be doing a million little code reviews…

Anyone unable to login lemmy using Firefox?
FF user here. It only happens the first time. Supposedly, the account can be used across every instance. I had a lemmy account before, but when I was trying to get in here, it just got stuck at the login page until I registered a new one. No problem after that.
Hmm… I think it’s not working on my side. Tried logging and stuck at loading. And firefox’s developer console sucks :/

@Naomikho not sure for Lemmy per se, but because there’s no centralized admin, a lot of these internal group chats/mails started up because coordinate announcements or any such thing. So I’m told lol
That makes sense… I thought it’d be admins managing their own instance but not everyone started their own instance. Plus in reddit there’s a sub for subreddit mods to coordinate with each other like r/modcoord so I suppose that’s what they’re trying to do?
@Naomikho probably! I’m not an admin so idk how my tiny instance does theirs. I know it can get quite cliquey for sure.
I found the link in one of Lemmy.world introduction pages, but i never joined until just now, because i am really not interested in hosting/mod but kinda remembered just now it exists. I joined the chatroom to see - it’s very slow, but there’s people.

Idea for malicious compliance back at spezland: Turn the subreddit into one where you may only talk about people or place named Malaysia (yes there are a few). This one will alienate almost the entire extant community there so maybe one not to be enacted, it just can’t stand on its own. I just wanted to put it into words here.
Or maybe it can only be about sexy Rosmah. 🤮
