Yeah I can’t really talk about Israel and adjacent issues in any depth with my family because they start to look at me like I’ve grown a second head before I’ve even done some basic 101 stuff. By the same turns they believe vague but darkly terrifying things about the barbaric nature of arab people. and they’re about as good as ‘the good ones’ get as far as boomer libs.
We’ll never convince them, someone just needs to do what needs to be done.
I’m reminded of something (Noam Chomsky?) once did, where he spoke at (Harvard?) and began listing atrocities (it wasn’t true) committed by Arabs against Jewish people in Israel/Palestine and the people were absolutely aghast at what they heard, utterly horrified, and then…revealed that actually it was the other way around, that it was the zionists who’d committed those atrocities against the Palestinian population, and he said he noted with some interest that the room breathed a sigh of relief
