Yes, that does seem like a waste of time. These people aren’t looking for a conversation or even a debate. They’re looking for a fight, and they’ll twist themselves into knots to get it.
Never in the history of humankind has there ever been a point in talking to a man spoiling for a fight. Walking away or punching first are the only useful options, and on the Internet only the former is viable (and generally the better option in any case).
I don’t think its a waste of time; tho I will say they are not the audience. Someone is hearing these things for the first time and needs to hear the alternative. Same reason one should counter comment on flat earthers and anti vaxx when possible. I don’t expect the individual to change their mind, but they are a foil for the lurkers.

Bombing those you are trying to be on your side is not really a way to get them to join you. Germans and Koreans are still part of the proletariat after all. Tankies like to pretend that people are supporting the bombing of countries outside the west; which is not the case more than one thing can be bad. They just happen to be authoritarians and only agree with the cruelty when its their flag on the winning side.
They are right that dems are a right wing part overall, but it is where our most left leaning politics still live. We should try and grow that. Ideally we should found our own party that is truly left leaning, but that requires coalition building and voting. It does not matter if you can come up with goals that they will agree with 90%. They just won’t actually show up to support it as their activism is largely online. They are very passionate until it requires action. It would help our movement to have some real coordination. Short term there are real policy changes that can slow down the harm from fascism. Simply abstaining is to surrender unconditionally.
