Today, Mayor Mamdani announced $15 million to go directly to providers of gender-affirming care for transgender youth—the most concrete action his administration has taken since EITM began reporting on the gaps between his campaign promises and the trans young people who placed their hope in them. The announcement includes three initiatives: a direct care access fund for providers serving trans youth, a call and text line connecting families to care, and research funding. It also comes amid a sustained campaign by the Trump administration to shut down gender-affirming care for youth and some adults nationwide through funding threats and baseless criminal investigations of institutions providing that care—and once operationalized, could provide a significant lifeline for youth who need care in the city.

You really intend to argue Godwin’s law when you are capable of seeing this as temporary exploitable gesture?

I dunno about you but I’d rather that trans youth get some funding rather than zero zilch nada. He’s a mayor, not the goddamn president.

He’s no doubt going to come under fire for this by the “grrr, socialism is evil and look, now it’s coming for your kids and turning them trans!” crowd, and you’re complaining that he can’t magically pull more money out of nowhere when he’s already showing off how competent he is compared to a lot of dems in this country.

Who’s Mamdani doing it as a “temporary exploitable gesture” for, in your eyes?

So you’re… complaining that he’s doing something that might not be done with the next mayor? Which is somehow a negative on his part, and not his future successor who would be either dismantling it or discontinuing (r otherwise not continuing) it…?

…Whatever, you’re right, Mamdani, don’t bother in the first place, give those trans kids nothing, alapakala on Lemmy is pissed off, tear it all down, it’s not worth anything if it’s not perfect to her!

              now you’re projecting.
reread my concerns when you’re less emotional.

Trans care, like all human care, should be free, forever.

No shit healthcare should be free, plenty of countries do that already and it’s a disgrace that the US is falling into fascism?

Mamdani can’t wave a magic wand to make all healthcare free, we don’t even have Medicare for all or universal healthcare yet because the worse politicians are capitalist and bought out by the elite.

I’d rather be “emotional” than an example of the left eating itself because you’re miserable when things aren’t perfect the first time something happens. 99% of mayors are lazy vultures compared to Mamdani and you’re directing your ire at him!

Then if you’re aware of the problem, why are miserably eating yourself over your inability to dethrone fascists?

Mamdani isn’t our problem, capitalism is.
Why use capitalist means to bandage a disarticulation?

You’re the one complaining that Mamdani isn’t doing enough just because his successor might do worse, when he has limited power and is still doing more than the president. Oops, Godwin’s law again, I can’t mention the president failing us just because he’s a neo-nazi, huh?

I never said that Mamdani was our problem, you’re the one complaining about him not doing enough!
