I have gotten your messages (well, at one time some of them mysteriously vanished and this contributed to my lazyness so I didn’t reply - sorry for that).
I’m still familiar with the “Imaginary” subreddits before I joined the Fediverse. I had subscribed to a few of them, but ultimately, I found them too limiting because of their specificity. On Reddit, it might’ve worked to create a community like “ImaginaryWastelands” and only have people post Wasteland-specific art.
We’re on the Fediverse, though. There are not a lot of people here and getting too specific of an art community will result in a lack of content.
My motivation for creating this community was the following: I like everything Apocalypse. I want to show how people live after the society as we know it now ends, what happens to buildings when no one maintains them anymore, the conflict between the survivors, abstract art that fits the theme in general or maybe just a real-world image that looks so surreal it definitely fits this community.
In summary: Everything. Just be creative and give us something creative we can enjoy. We have a general theme, but I’m not a stickler for rules. That’s why I decided to give this a very generalized name - “ApocalypticArt”. Ultimately, the community decides what they deem to be apocalyptic and so far, this has worked out great.
I feel like joining the Imaginary network would take this approach away from us, since these communities are for very specific themes, which is not what we do here. I want to keep it how it is at the moment, and I definitely don’t want to rename the community to fit the “Imaginary” naming scheme.
ah. well in that case i do apologise for spamming you. i just have experienced missing messages before
if it helps assuage your concerns - i’m not associated with the reddit imaginary network, and i agree with your points - i’ve tried to make things broader for that exact reason (Wastelands and Ruins is almost identical in scope to this lemmysphere[1], and i would not have bothered to create it if this one had existed (and i had known) when i made it)
the f.n.i.c. on lemmy is much less restrictive - there’s no cohesive set of rules (hence the “federated” in the title - it’s sort of a dual meaning - each mod sets up their lemmysphere as they see fit). the purpose of it is basically just for cross-promotion[2]: lemmy’s discovery is not as good as reddit’s and the plan is to A) link related lemmyspheres in the sidebar, and B) have one megapost where all 'spheres that people who liked one may like others are in one place. please be assured that it’s not restrictive and this 'sphere wouldn’t have to change anything apart from adding the list to a sidebar (and if you like there’s a matrix space as we’re doing everything democratically, so you could voice opinions). this is also an open invitation so if you change your mind at any point just message me
but other than that i won’t bother you more, and i do apologise again for spamming you from 3 different accounts
other things to note -
there will be a “friends of” section at the bottom if you don’t think this is specific enough (although i do and we’ve all voted that it is), you could be listed there (compare hitstun’s !floatingisfun@fedia.io and /r/raining)
i was considering allowing real things in some contexts, although i haven’t actually made that decision yet
please don’t see this message as me trying to railroad you - i’m just clarifying, and if you don’t respond to this message i’ll say nothing further on the matter
possibly wider? as i encourage post-post-apocalyptic, and i don’t know if you do ↩︎
if it helps - this is the 'sphere i like most out of all that i’ve invited, it’s the one i’d most like to become popular (apart from, y’know, my own) ↩︎
hi lichtmetzger
i’m sorry to do this under a post, but i can only assume you haven’t got my messages as you haven’t told me to go away
would !apocalypticart like to join the f.n.i.c.? i like this lemmysphere and also i feel like it’s a good fit
