There used to be options to subscribe to a SIP service for voice with SMS bridging using a real number, rather than a throw away one shared by countless free users. Now the few who do provide a real numnber all require you to install it on a phone first.

I’m looking for a service that offers stable numbers by subscription that works on Linux without linking to a phone via an app as the only Android device I still have is a LAN connected Lineage OS tablet withoiut Google Play Services.

I am also looking for something that does not slam “AI” and spyware into everything and simply gives me calls, or at least voicemail so I can call back from another line later, and texting without selling ads, rewriting my messages, or transcribing voicemails.

I use jmp.chat for this service. I believe it is $5 a month and offers a real number with voice and text. On Linux I use Dino to call and text, on Android I use Cheogram for calls and text - It’s available on Fdroid.

It’s not perfect but it all works well enough as an XMPP bridge, I’ve been using it for years. Best of luck.

I have a handful of codes. They’re one time use and get you a free month.

Dang, I guess I slacked and someone else used it. Or mayb it expired? I’ve got a snikket instance set up now so I’m signing up for jmp.chat and am ready to enter a code. Can you DM me or post another? I appreciate your recommendation and assistance!
