It’s called Gbox (Google Box) and basically it lets you run apps that relies on GMS inside a profile similar to work profiles, except that it’s more optimized, cleaner and easier to use. While running MicroG is privately the best option I think that if you can’t install a custom rom or don’t want to root my phone then this is IMO the best way to run google play apps. The only downside is that the app is not FOSS but you can turn off Internet access and use the app normally
Reminder though: If you’re on GrapheneOS, sandboxed Google play is the best you can get while using Google play. MicroG is just as, if not more, privileged than Google Play while lacking many genuine security features provided by Google Play. App stores like aurora don’t check app signatures and can fail if their “anonymous” accounts get banned. If you’re using GrapheneOS and want apps from the play store, making a seperate profile with sandboxed Google play is the best option.
Their website seem very sketchy: https://www.gboxlab.com/
And the App has A LOT of critical permissions: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/6fcbaafbcb033b9e0cc03a5d6acaa54ca6b6cb06d16ce3c2d0657d7addfba257/details
Another red flag - Telegram channel link for communication. A lot of infostealer use telegram.
thanks for the suggestion. this would be super useful, i’ll have to try it out.
the fact it’s not foss is concerning though.
