Remember when this was just supposed to be about pornography? Notice how it never ever applies strictly to pornography and how that’s always just a foot in the door excuse

I’m ignorant but it seems like Australia kind of censors video games a lot, right? Like the culture of law there is to be kind of controlling about what people can see and play in video games specifically

It’s not just that, it’s also group of government officials who and other Australians who are staunchly pro nanny state and refusing to allow people to enjoy their right to play video games

Yes and the group of assholes that got MasterCard and Visa to threaten distributors like Steam into removing NSFW art globally, are in Australia. I’m so mad at the whole situation and the power some biased, conservative, pro-suppression pricks had over the life choices of 8 billion people

Something sad but interesting I’ve found is, if you ever explore some adult game spaces, you can find some people who are certain that liberalism, “DEI”, and “wokeness” are to blame for the rise of censorship.

It seems intentional that the efforts of censorship are hidden behind many finger-pointing centers of blame, rather than being associated to common political parties. Most politicians don’t want to be associated to raunchy imagery at all, and so they don’t make any direct statements, and communities end up drawing their red strings themselves.

The Xbox is a dead platform and PS is right behind it. Look at active player counts for the info on who matters. It’s not Microsoft, EA or the others. It’s indie studios and free to play studios on the PC and Steam. Until those guys decide they need to comply, none of these laws are going to matter. Any country telling some indie dev somewhere else that they need to set up software to verify ID cards is going to be ignored. Then, the people who want to play those games are going to ignore them too. If you walk around in any major city in Australia today, you see people ignore the law routinely. This is just one more law they will ignore.
