There are entire industries of this when you look at the various diasporas in the US. You’ve got think tanks, scholarships, grants, programs around ‘‘democracy, freedom of speech, good governance, transparency’’. You’ve got student exchange programs where some dumbass kids get to go to the US to be weaponized against their home countries. FIU, Florida International University, is emblematic of this. These are the people that run targeted NGO’s in their countries around topics such as ‘‘women’s rights’’, ‘‘freedom of expression’’, ‘‘LGBTQ+ rights’’, etc. Some of them will also return to their countries to run in politics. This is what USAID and NED do. At that point they should no longer be considered as members of their home countries, they’re traitors and agents of empire. This is one of the most ingenious strokes of western propaganda: to put a black or brown mouthpiece talking shit about their own country. The ‘‘lived experience’’ libs will gobble it up because ‘‘someone from X country said it, so it has to be true’’, reactionaries from those countries find a resource for their bullshit, and reactionaries from the west do what Comrade @1Malayali@lemmy.ml said so well.

it’s always really funny in an evil sort of way how all their “protest” signs are in english and yet liberals will call you all sorts of things if you even think they might have anything to do with the west

Yeah. That is why Trump’s tariffs to reindustralize and slashing of USAID looks like Marxist accelerationism from the outside. Funny stuff

USAID -> NGO connection was publicly discussed by alt right. Their theory was that USAID funds NGOs which organize irregular migrations. And that current drop in irregular border crossings can be directly attributed to slashing USAID. I haven’t seen much (any really) proof that said NGOs are so effective at facilitating migrations though.

Regarding tariffs. On “Liberation day” liberal economists were publicly condemning the policy as totally misguided while Varufakis who is imo most prominent Marxist (or at least adjacent) economist wrote that the plan might just work. Of course his critique was that this mechanism will be used to strenghten capitalism and as such a bad move because according to him and other Marxist-adjacent economists: global capitalism is full of contradictions and will implode (and so on and so forth)

So thats why I called Trump a Marxist accelerationist. Its funny :)

what does migration have to do with any of the hegemonic influence of the usaid-ngo ecosystem the comment you replied to claimed to exist?

It’s a critique of the same phenomenom but from a completely different viewpoint. Subject is the same but content is different.

what do you think it’s worth? to my eye the immigration conspiracy presupposes american soft power but from a positive lens. they like the soft power just not being used in this way. that’s diametrically opposed to the left, especially marxist, ethic. thing is now that you mention it the viewpoints diverge so much from the same data that neither side seams reliable. maybe you can enlighten me, fresh perspectives are nice.

I don’t have much more to add here I’m afraid. But when you think about that, soft power is difficult to convert into tangible benefits. Sponsoring LGBT outreach in eastern Europe does not necessary translate into F35 sales, at least not in the short term.

Because it is useful for the group that hates to say ‘See, even some of them agree. So, we’re not being hateful or overly generalising against a group here uwu’

I could make So. Much. Money. doing this crap… but it would be so socially irresponsible, and I refuse to make society worse for a quick buck. That’s capitalist logic, and I ain’t no filthy capitalist!
