I thought Nostr sounded interesting so I checked it out. Turns out it’s just crypto bros stroking each other over there. No thanks.
Any “platform” that puts 100% of the responsibility to block spam and annoying users onto the individuals is simply miserable. They want a space where they can force their worldview onto everyone.

I trust the federal reserve more than I trust cryptocurrency, and I don’t trust the federal reserve at all.

Doing the mOcKiNg typing and an /s cancel each other out like a double negative.

isn’t the entire fucking transaction ledger public?
Of Nostr? It’s an activitypub alternative, not a cryptocurrency, it doesn’t run on a blockchain
the cryptobros bit threw me off
Cryptocurrencies is extremely different from cryptography, what are you on?

Ok like I’ve seen nostr maybe ONCE what was/is it?
It’s a federated protocol that uses public key cryptography to prove identity, so you don’t really have a “home server”. That also means there’s very little in the way of moderation.
Explains why the one time I’ve seen nostr come through it was some weird ass spam
Spam, cryptobros and PDFs. But once you block them its halfway decent. I mean as an alternative its ok
PDFs as in pirated books i.e. we might want to check out nostr even if only rarely for specific items of interest? Or like useless whitepapers i.e. nostr would have zero value to most of us (or I guess you are saying that heavy curation can restore some utility).
PDFs as in Jeffery Epstein.
I had to look it up, I didn’t knew this sense either.
Thanks!

I now vaguely regret some of my word choices then…! 😜
It’s like if Wikipedia put the expectation of fact checking onto the end user.
That also means there’s very little in the way of moderation.
I think this is more down to the mindset of the community of people who use it, than it is the fault of the technical design, which does go beyond just relying on private keys for identity, and could absolutely work out systems for effective moderation. But the Nostr community is mainly Bitcoin maxi libertarians, so maybe they just won’t.
I know it’s not complicated to put the word “Protocol” there, but do y’all have a template for future use? 👀
