Being able to skip up or down to previous or next parent comment without collapsing etc would really help navigating large threads.

Yeah this would be awesome. Boost has (had‽) this and it was so good for long threads.
This was one of the most important feutures in RiF for me.
Root comment has ‘Next’ and ‘Previous’ buttons to jump between top-level comments. All child comments have instead ‘To root’ button.
