Here is something I find myself wishing for in Piefed:
A “suggest a community” option - because not everyone has the time or energy to start and manage their own, maybe if it gets a certain vote and someone volunteers as moderator it gets created.
This sounds like it could be a community rather than a software function?
Yes, It sounds like https://piefed.social/c/fedigrow@lemmy.zip has offered to include this in their community. As a side note, it could be worth encouraging “new community suggestions” beyond within communities, perhaps.

I’m looking at a balance between news on fediverse software and community management. I created a weekly bot to explore the fediverse and i love this kind of content because it fell more user centric. :)
Seems like you identified a missing aspect, that could be beneficial to the threadiverse.
Although, I’m not sure this makes the most sense as a feature, but should rather be a specific community. I think it would fit in quite nicely with the other community building communities:

Maybe another community or a running stickied post, with people volunteering to potentially mod certain types of communities. Comment example in such a stickied post: “I’m potentially willing to mod a history or data analysis community”.
If a post suggesting a community that matches the potential mod’s criteria comes up, they can be tagged/pinged in the post so they know to come check out the post and see if they want to mod the suggested new community.
!fedigrow@lemmy.zip can be used for this, it’s not that active, and the “Suggest a community” discussion would definitely fit.
As a side note, I feel like having the idea of a community is usually fine, the difficult part is keeping it active.
Could be worth trying it out. Maybe a scheduled weekly post asking for missing/wanted community ideas.
I do think a stickied willing mods post with perhaps a weekly/monthly post to remind people to sign up (comment on stickied post) if they are interested and willing.
Also, if this does happen in fedigrow, you might want to update the sidebar to reflect the expanded areas of interest.

I take the risk of being downvoted to oblivion with this, but this sounds like a perfect case for a bot that would use text embeddings and clusterization in order to group suggestions and connect people.
“I am interested in helping open hardware, self managed communities, especially in France”
-> “Two people are interested in starting FabLabFr, can I connect you with them?”
Start a Bengali language community then. World’s sixth largest language, massive literature, movies, Nobel laureates, the only language speakers in the world to carve out a country for their language. Yet they are mostly present in Facebook, Instagram and X. What a loss!
Start a community in a language you don’t understand?
Include someone in your team who does.
You can just open a community on lemmy or piefed and it should pretty much be what you asked.
But a system where users could say the are willing to commit X amount of money per month to pay a moderator to moderate it is probably going to improve the chances of that really happening.
