University is good to get a piece of paper. It is not so good when it comes to getting an education however (at least not in my experience).

“Of those who do start a teaching degree, only 50% finish,” he said. “And of those who finish it, 20% are leaving after less than three years.

I went to a disadvantaged public school. Some of the teachers there were so inspirational to me that I decided to follow in their footsteps and study to become a teacher.

What a complete and utter waste of time that was… One of my biggest regrets is the time and money that was utterly wasted on studying education at university. Years wasted ‘learning’ simplistic nonsense like ‘everyone has a different background’, and ‘how to speak with people’. I spent semesters studying content that I could convey to people with a single sentence. Content that most people already learnt via Playschool in their formative years. My first ‘placement’ was in a school cafeteria, where I served lasagne and chips. The only genuine experience I obtained was through my own initiative where I volunteered at a local school unrelated to my degree.

These days I work full time, and I recently decided to go back to uni part time in order to get a specific qualification. The first course I am forced to do is, ‘How not to rape people’. Thanks you condescending prick.

If anyone reads this post is thinking about going to university, my advice is to see if there are any other options. Can you obtain the qualification through the workplace? Through TAFE? If so, I suggest you choose that route instead.

University is filled with arseholes who spend the majority of their work life sniffing their own farts.
