I didn’t see the community name at first and was like “who the fuck vacuum seals peas?!” Then I clicked which made it bigger and was like oh, that makes far more sense 🤣
Make
lemonaderadler?@homebrewing do you have some ideas what I can do with some hops?
It is bit older, probably not too bitter but still nice aroma. Only thing I know it is T90 Sládek from 2017.
I had the idea to try making just a tea from hops, as I’m sure they’re the happiness-inducing ingredient in beer. Never tried it, but you could now 😊
Homemade hops soda (non-alcoholic) is another option to use some of the hops up.
Why not sell it? Surely there would be people interested in cheap hops in a local homebrewing association, even if you don’t want to bother with shipping?
I still can get another 20kg…
I duno if extract could be an option, some cosmetics can be made or what to do. It is just too much for small batch brewing. I am open to all ideas ;-)
I am assuming since you have a vacuum sealer you also have room to store these in a freezer.
Do they lose potency over time, yes. But in my personal experience they are still usable.
You may just have to increase amounts based on the previous batch.
If you are devoloping recipes to enter in a competition use the freshest hops you can for consistency.
If you are just brewing to experiment and drink these will work.
If you are really worried about not using enough and they won’t work for you. Look for local clubs to share/trade.
There was a brulosophy test where they tested old hops stored under different conditions. Vacuum packed and frozen remained essentially the same over months of storage
@CorneliusTalmadge problem is that 10kg is good for like 8000l or so (depends on the beer style, it is guesstimate from big batches I made when I worked in brewery) so still bit too much for stuff like that. It is more than lifetime supply for my homebrewing and as you said not good for serious brews.
I put some in freezer (~1year for me) and some for other people to use. In total ~5kg set aside and I can get another 20kg of this stuff.
So if someone has any ideas what to do with shitload of hops I’m all in for some nefarious experiments.
