And yeah, the clothing looks damn fabulous, I love it. But AAAAAAAA why is the character another generic anime girl only distinguishable by the clothing? I miss me some diversity in mascots :(

I mean Linux has a (usually overweight) penguin.
Or do you mean just skin color/human phenotype? Mascots in general include a wide array of animals.
Ah, I meant mostly fan-made mascots, or to be even more precise, personifications of software all of which seem to be similar looking anime girls.
