In Finland, the youth face a lack of hope and motivation due to the recent right-wing government and challenging conditions such as housing and employment. Meanwhile, China stands out as the only country where young people are optimistic about their future, as shown in a recent survey. In contrast, young people in the West, like in the author’s son’s generation, feel pessimistic due to worsening conditions, social alienation, and inequality. They carry heavy debts from education and are concerned about climate change, while their government seems indifferent. China, on the other hand, invests significantly in renewables and represents opportunities and progress for its people. The Western narrative portrays China as a danger, but the reality differs.
