I’ve never seen it, but I’ve seen two good representations of bdsm in media: a comic called Sunstone (which is cheating, it was literally written to address criticism of 50 shades), and the movie Exit to Eden which is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen by gods if they don’t do an accurate representation of the shared humanity there.

That’s not to say these are the only good examples just that I don’t really consume much media or it and that there are a ton of bad examples. It’s really easy for writers to focus on the aesthetic and not see what’s underneath. I know some M/s couples where you wouldn’t be able to tell they’re mot just living the “traditional patriarchal household” until you talk to them and learn they’re both firm feminists.

And I’ll say Mistresses are particularly poorly represented in media as they’re often oversexualized, dehumanized, and made into cruel caricatures, when most I know are sweet and awkward nerds, who genuinely love their submissives.

Check out Billions, its right at the start of like the first episode. She’s a psychiatrist/MD so its a pretty high-stakes representation they would seemingly have had to get right

She does it with and is married to the SDNY District Attorney (in the show) and he loves NEEDS it lol
