From COVID-19 to climate change, scientists are facing a flood of hate mail, threats and harassment from conspiracy theorists.

Yeah people in charge didn’t get everything totally right but they were doing what they could with the information available to them. So sick of anti vaxer griefing.

l’m not an anti vaxer. I however couldn’t take the vaccine due to my illness. But there was no room for those exceptions. I was threaded horribly within my country (Netherlands).

For example, I couldn’t even sit down and order something to drink on very very hot day.

From a policy perspective, what’s more important?

        A) Letting people who for whatever reason didn’t get the vaccine have a drink at a terrace

        or

        B) Preventing people who are unvaccinated from either spreading or catching the virus when community spread is still very much a thing and hospitals are overwhelmed?

I was in the Netherlands for part of the lockdowns and I definitely recall the news of hospitals around the country being under a lot of strain. I think your situation in particular sucks and the lockdowns were pretty awful to go through, but I think just letting everyone raw dog it and then let the hospital system collapse would have been extremely irresponsible. And the gemeente would have caught hell for that too.
