I’ve been checking Lemmy almost ever since the weekend just before the blackouts, replacing Reddit as my addiction (of sorts). I’ve also managed to subscribe to a good number of communities, such that my feed is now quite healthy with content. I almost never get the urge to browse Reddit anymore, not even with all the mention of it in my feed.
How about you guys? Kamusta naman ang Lemmy experience ninyo thus far?
I still go to reddit for some of my interests that aren’t here yet, but for news, I use Lemmy na.

Lagi kong nakakalimutan na may Teddit nga pala, will try to use that nalang. Salamat sa reminder.
Try mo yung Privacy Redirect na addon para di mo na kailangang isipin. Meron siyang option to replace Twitter, Youtube, Instagram, and Reddit (among others). Para pag may ma-click kang link to any of those you opt to replace (say, Reddit) i-eedit nya yung link.
Now, I have to specifically temporary disable redirection for Reddit, to go to Reddit (if I am checking my accounts for any comments/posts for anything na nag-macArthur).

Ever since the blackout, I barely go back. The only times that I do is 1) to look for AskReddit material for the RD thread, 2) when someone links to juicy content, 3) close down r/thevisoria, and 4) peek at r/PH’s frontpage occasionally, particularly nung polling.
But I stopped posting and likely never will again. Wala rin ako itch to do so.
Edit: Ayan napasilip tuloy ako doon and found out that Couples For Christ have been gone for a while now, there’s a courier called HBK, and questions about phone brand and opening an OnlyFans account.

You know what, after reading some of the replies here, I’m starting to think of this place as some kind of a safe zone, a lounge where people can just relax and take a break from all of the havoc happening elsewhere online.
Limang araw na lang (anim sa ibang bansa) tatanggalin na nila ang mga thrid party apps. Masaya na ako dito sa lemmy, medyo may bugs ang jeroba pero okay na man.
Oo nga eh. Wag na lang pansinin ang mga bugs and to an extent, di ko na rin talaga napapansin.

Ay! Thanks for reminding me of that. Tagal na rin akong may Mastodon, pero sobrang hirap makahanap ng PH content, lalo na yung news and current events. Umabot sa point na recently nag-iisip ako kung kakayanin ko bang gumawa ng bot pang-repost galing Philippine news sources as well as PAG-ASA and Philvolcs. Kaso may nag-remind sa akin ginto na pala ang API access sa Twitter.
Mag-tatanong-tanong nga sana ako dito kung may alam silang magandang i-follow for PH-related things sa Mastodon eh. Forgot all about that tho until your reply.
the search function of mastodon is easier to use than lemmys but i find conversations easier here. mas may community na vibe dito that is missing in mastodon. am now using this community more than reddit. edit: thanks for the news bots.

It’s been slow for lemmy communities to form. Partly na rin siguro madami parin fence sitters sa reddit debacle up until July I suppose. Kaunti palang nasasalihan kong communities tho.

There are people there who want escapism due to how things are now. So they come up with casual low-effort content, thinking it’s fun than reading depressing or infuriating news headlines. Coping mechanism nila.

Allon the off chance that I’ll discover some community I would like.And yeah, there might be a lot of fence sitters, but I think after the wave that’s coming after the end of this month, things will quiet down. From then on, it’s really up to us already here if Lemmy/Kbin will be a thing, or it’d just be a fad. Network effect is a hell of a drug, but even if there ends up a stable and engaged population here, creating and consuming content, it’s already a win in my book.

Not wanting to toot my own horn but some of this is me, I think. I’m very unforgiving of low-effort posts that could be answered with just one reply. Tipong topics that belong in the Help Thread or already been asked/addressed several times before. Makukulong ka ba if hindi mo binayaran yung 800 pesos na balance sa PLDT or takbuhan mo Anytime Fitness membership. Best earphones for 200 pesos na goods na goods. IT o Accounting, ano kukunin ko na course? Innova o Avanza?
Karma farm or redundant threads bwisit rin kami. Yung mga “Ako lang ba naiinis sa utang na loob”, “What’s your favorite pancit canton?”, “Toxic Filipino Culture”, tinatanggal ko na lang without any explanation, lol.
The last month or so we were very consistent with this to the point na yung mga threads na otherwise matatabunan papunta sa third page, get a chance to shine. A good example was DENR planting the wrong Mangrove specie — it only had 11 replies on its first day and mushroomed to 195 in just a few days.

Yeah, r/ph is kinda shitty now. Sana ni-utilize nila yung other filipino subreddits instead of just lumping it in one place. There’s AskPH, CasualPH, PHGaming etc. and if you like shitposting, there’s 2philippines4u but because r/ph is the biggest filipino subreddit they flocked to it and posted there because where will they get their sweet, sweet karma? And then there’s the screenshot posts. If screenshot ng news, sana man lang kahit dinagdag nila yung source instead na nagmamadali silang ipost para sa kuhhhrma. 😑😑
Just to add to this: us mods hate screenshot posts and editorialized titles because it makes it difficult to police duplicates and harms discussion.
Instead of just one thread from Philstar about (hypothetical lang) the onion cartel leader being arrested, you have three other threads. One is a link to a Twitter post by Philstar with the title “Unity pa more”, the second is a screenshot of their post from FB titled “Thoughts?”, and thirdly, the same link but with a slightly different headline. Then each thread has like 20 comments each that could have been collated into one.
Yung iba naman na kating kati mag-post, hindi nila masabi if may existing na ba kasi nga when they search for “onion cartels” hindi susulpot sa results yung tatlo because of the title… leading to more and more dupe threads.

Yup. Buried underneath most of the “ReTiReMeNt PlAn nG mAgUlAnG” circle jerk is the sad reality that retirement homes are not a thing here, and that it costs upwards to 1 million annually per person (looking at RainTree at least).
I won’t be surprised some of these are either of the YOLO mentality (like they want to do everything until 40), or planning to die young because they fear what’s like to be past 60.
Generally most of them would rather live the rest of their lives as overseas emigres.
Ok this is just hilarious. It’s funny how some subreddits are being clever with their protests. r/dndmemes is just straight up goblin rule 34 now.

Used to regularly take a peek at /r/childfree years back, pero di ko na rin kinaya yung tone nila dun. There’s only enough ways to say “being childfree is a choice!” “It’s a sin to make another soul undergo torment in this world!” or other stuff.
I get it, it’s difficult to live a childfree life, especially when surrounded by the conservative, religious-minded. I get the need to rant about it, pero susmiyo… Like, uh, parang ang hirap mag-tambay dun nang matagal.

I was exposed to it and /r/antinatalism quite early on in my Reddit carreer. While I am sympathetic to their cause, I feel that the overall mood over at those subs are just a bit too much.
I suppose as more and more people find their way over here, a childfree community would arise here as well. I hope they won’t have as much toxicity as their Reddit counterparts.
Ako din. While karamihan sa friends and family members ko child-free, they’re not in the same boat as the typical card-carrying child-free that are just as annoying and toxic as those who keep on pestering singles/couples when they’re getting kids.
Tapos napanood ko pa yung kumakalat na vid about gen-Zs, and I just facepalmed hard on how cliche the answers were. Tbf, the “survey” was done in bad faith because why would you be asking inexperienced kids about parenting? Lmao.
I’m childfree myself, mostly by circumstance, but also partly by principle. Mostly, I adhere to a “if you think you’re up to it, best of luck!” kind of a stance. However, yeah, yung iba dun sa subs na yun (also /r/antinatalism) are just a bit too toxic in their beliefs to the point that it’s alienating.

Just installed it. I’m not a fan of the tiled cards and you can’t customize anything yet, but other than that it’s not too bad. May distinction for the OP, pages are displayed like you’d want it to, and it’s clean.

Tbf, mahina talaga RDs natin pag weekend, kahit nung sarado pa kabila. So, not surprised at all na career low yesterday now that the bulk of our members made a beeline back in there earlier this week.
It’ll be interesting how post-June 30 plays out, though. Will more people migrate here or come back? Maybe. I’m not so sure the Lemmy mobile apps provide a better experience than the native Reddit app for them to abandon ship.
Like I said awhile ago, the community was just an echo chamber. Para sa mga Pinoy, walang resemblance ang Reddit API changes and most of them galing rin sa Facebook na baguhan lang sa Reddit.

I used to visit old.reddit back in a day, only read 5-10 threads. With redesigned Reddit, it felt like I was on Facebook noong may account pa ako. I concur my algorithm back then was shit to the core. lol
Well, it’s not that there’s a whole lot of us here, especially after the otherside has reopened. Also, mukhang tayong mga natira dito ay di rin naman ganun ka-daldal.
However, relatively speaking madada tayo compared to the other country subreddits here.
I’m proud of the fact that we only have 700 subscribers but the community is in the top 5 of most comments. Yung iba nasa 2-3k members but could barely muster half of that.

I haven’t crunched the numbers, but I am guessing this community has the most posts per subscriber sa lahat ng lemmy/kbin country communities/magazines.
Hindi ko nakita yung Deutschland sa main page ah. They have half our members and just behind a little on comments.
Still, number two is pretty awesome considering it’s only a handful of us from r/PH.
Di ko rin gets kung anong default sorting method na gamit for the community list (both all and local), but I checked just now and it’s near the bottom of the first page here.
