Berlin is right. We need weapons ASAP and if we have to get them from abroad (not from the US, of course) so be it.

That said, I trust Merz about as far as I can throw him.

It’s not Amazon where they will ship the product when you order it, manufacturers usually don’t have massive stock piles and it might already be a long order queue. And if everyone is gonna buy, well then the price will increase, its better to invest the money in local production and infrastructure

My point was that they need to get arms where they can be produced ASAP. People think we have years, for some reason. Have you seen Trump’s jingoistic remarks about NATO?

They are both right. Macron is talking about not buying US weapons. Scholz is talking about cooperating with the UK, Norway and Turkey. Yes we should but European, but as a French general explained in a France 24 debate a couple of days ago there are certain items that we will need to buy from America in the short term as their are no European alternatives (e.g. P8 Poseidon, E3 Wedgetail).

We also shouldn’t rule out cooperation with Japan, RoK, Australia and Canada.

      Ackchually… (adjusts glasses)

The E-3 AWACS is called Sentry and is the model that France and the UK currently operate. The more modern Wedgetail AWACS’ model name is E-7
