Was this AI trained on an unbalanced data set? (Only black folks?) Or has it only been used to identify photos of black people? I have so many questions: some technical, some on media sensationalism

    We’re just better identifying people/animals/things we’re familiar with.

    On top of that, we are able to discern even more subtle differences in faces similar to those we are used to than those we aren’t. It’s not ‘just’ because we are human, there actually is an element dependent on who we commonly see around us. Although you can certainly acclimate to other facial characteristics with time.
