For the people who were using FREENOW (originally from Germany), I just received a notification on the app saying it is now being acquired by Lyft, an American company.

Just thought I’d share it here.

Edit: If you’re planning to delete your account, see the comment by Alaknar on making a GDPR request. It’s quick and easy to do.

Expect it to get worse throughout this administration. Perhaps even beyond.

The market manipulation has been insane, and I barley see any backlash.

In case you want to remove your account due to this, HERE’S a link to their How To, and HERE’S the link to the contact form.

    The process is very simple:

In the ‘Main contact reason’ section, select ‘GDPR’ and in the Subject type ‘I want to delete my account’. Make sure to use the email address registered to your FREENOW account

Excellent addition. I wish companies just deleted your data by default, but we know that’s sadly not how it works. Thank you.

I had already gotten rid of my account because they were exploiting local taxi drivers pretty horribly in a similar way to delivery apps vs local restaurants.

But now I might be able to convince friends to delete their accounts.

We actually had a local alternative here, BEAT. Then FreeNow bought it and we had to switch apps which was annoying but hey at least it wasn’t Uber. Now this gets bought too. I guess it’s either Uber or Lyft now.

@Pirata Thought of starting to use Freenow as well. It sucks that this was the way to make room for Lyft in Europe…

I’ll still rely on public transit fwiw. Had some poor experience lately that made me reconsider using this type of service at all…
