Apologies for the delay today, here’s the Friday puzzle!

Instructions (best on desktop):

  1. Solve the grid using the clues provided. The direction of the word is indicated by the number around the grid (so some words are backwards).

  2. After you complete the grid, click the pencil icon tab at the bottom to switch over to solve the anagram. The title is a hint to the anagram!

it took me about 5 min to get the crossword, with cheating to look up the names.

It literally took me 30 mins, with breaks, to get the anagram, and it made me say “son of a removed” when I saw it after just jamming random letters into the anagram, when I saw the start of the second word.

It is an acceptable difficulty for today, but there is one complaint I have :

    spoiler

I don’t think the hint for “rune” is quite right. “Type of character used in ancient text” would be more appropriate, since the clue made me think of “Iota? Alpha? I’ll come back to it later”. “Thorn” is an exaple of a runic letter.

I’m not unfamiliar with this reaction 😅

It’s because I knew the answer all along, but don’t think about it, ever, but was waaay more familiar with it as a kid due to the references made to it.

I’m open to the edit! Will adjust shortly!

I hope you use better wording than I did 😖

EDIT : Great work on the update!

I went with “Term for a letter or character in ancient Germanic alphabets” - hopefully that removes the suggestion of specific letters!

Took me 11:56 this time, although I accidentally closed the game a couple times after I had figured out the crossword so it probably took longer than that.

It was tricky, but very clever and the answer made sense after I figured it out, lol.
