    Yes.

In fact, I’d say that among all Star Wars TV shows it’s the one which makes the most sense to someone who is unfamiliar with wider Star Wars lore.

Andor is a very independent entity, and everything you need to know to enjoy the show is encapsulated within the show itself.

The only problem watching Andor first is that it’s so good, everything else will feel disappointing in comparison.

Generally speaking with Rogue One, but it’s probably more fun to do that after you finish the series.

Hope you enjoy, if you dig it the Mandalorian was really good too more of a samurai western kung fu style serial where Andor is more political spy thriller

    Yes.

The very basics of the universe is that there was a republic that lasted thousands of years, but then was toppled and a totalitarian regime was instituted (The Empire.) After 20 years, a group of rebels toppled The Empire and made a new republic.

Andor takes place during the 20 years of the empire, focusing on the formation of the rebellion. It is significantly lower fantasy than most of Star Wars, which features characters who can channel mystical powers (The Force.) The Force is almost completely absent from Andor. A lot of people who don’t really like the supernatural elements like Andor for that reason.

You definitely can - might not hurt to have a little Star Wars knowledge prior to watching it, but it’s a good standalone.

If you do watch Andor (and enjoy it), you should check out Rogue One afterwards as the two very much tie together and have a similar ‘vibe’.

The only ‘downside’ of having Andor (and Rogue One if you watch it) be your only exposure to Star Wars is that the rest of the media is very different and might not be as enjoyable.

absolutely yes. the connections to the events in star wars are pretty much all fan service, it excels on its own. the tricky thing about making a prequel is when it ends up better than the original.

I highly recommend Rogue One as well. It follows Cassian Andor as a spy for the rebellion immediately after the second (and final) season of the show.

Rogue One is a story set immediately before the first movie: Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Immediately as in the final scene of Rogue One is the first scene of A New Hope.

Similar to the other commenter, the problem is that Rogue One is by far the best movie of the entire franchise, so you start at the high point.

If you like the movie and want more Star Wars, I recommend this order. I’ll list the title and the “episode” number

    1. Rogue One (3.9)
    2. A New Hope (4)
    3. The Empire Strikes Back (5)
    4. The Phantom Menace (1)
    5. Attack of the Clones (2)
    6. Revenge of the Sith (3)
    7. Return of the Jedi (6)

There are three more movies after #6, but there’s almost no point in watching them.

It’s really important to remember that a lot of the Star Wars movies aren’t good but they’re cultural institutions and you kinda have to accept them as they are. The writer/director of the original trilogy spent a lot of time tweaking and editing them after their original releases including adding new scenes digitally created decades after the release.

Yes. It’s probably an even more interesting experience going in blind to the universe because you have no idea which characters are safe, or the bigger directions of certain plot points.

andor is a show about revolution set in star wars, the setting is just the setting

It is one of the only bits of popular media ive seen where the writers clearly understand fascism and the necessary steps in combatting it
