Pope Leo XIV affirmed Friday that the family is founded on the “stable union between a man and a woman,” and that the unborn and elderly enjoy dignity as God’s creatures, articulating clear Catholic teaching on marriage and abortion at the start of his pontificate.

Yeah. Struggling to see the ‘news’ angle, here, but I guess there’s always columns to fill. It’s just new management reassuring the staff that there’ll be minimal disruption.

Might as well post this here too:

Like his predecessor, Leo opposes the idea of ordaining female deacons. That’s in keeping with thousands of years of Catholic understanding, as he told journalists at a 2023 conference."

While Francis was known for his efforts to make the church more open to members of the LGBTQ+ community — famously asking, “Who am I to judge?” — Leo may not follow in his footsteps.

In a 2012 address, Leo expressed concern that Western culture promotes “enormous sympathy for beliefs and practices that are at odds with the Gospel,” specifically referencing abortion, the “homosexual lifestyle” and “alternative families comprised of same-sex partners and their adopted children.”

Considers atheists deplorables. Doesn’t really know what we are at all. Ignorant.

Those allegations, according to Pearson, were primarily about Pope Leo XIV’s dealings with Father James Ray, a priest accused of abusing minors. Nearly a decade later, Ray’s ministry had been allowed to move to the Augustinians’ St. John Stone Friary in Chicago, despite the building being near a Catholic elementary school, the Chicago-Sun Times reported in 2021. Records obtained by the paper show that church officials approved the transfer, noting there was “no school in the immediate area.”

    Another defender of child fuckers.

      Another defender of child fuckers.

He’s from the US. I think it was obvious from the get go what his stances would be in some aspects considering the christofascist state of the country.

He probably contributed to how anti-science US got to this point.

    Aaaaand there it is

It’s truly impossible for religious institutions to be progressive, because it renders them redundant when they aren’t recognised as an absolute authority in things

He might not be a “bad” pope, but let’s not pretend that any of them are actually good, doing anything other than maintaining the influence and wealth of their superstition

He covered up child abuse, so the hell he believes in (if any of those politicians actually believes their bullshit) is waiting

The entire point of religion is keeping ideas that were hashed out centuries ago alive as long as possible.

It’s what they mean by god; it’s their way of life.

Nothing wrong with the other things either, that is the point the Pope doesn’t get.
