Major digital labor platforms, also known as gig companies, operating in the United States misclassify gig workers as independent contractors, denying them labor rights.
Surprised no one has commented, this is a real trend. This is my personal perspective and overview based on what’s happening due to AI: It looks to me like Gig/Tech/IT jobs are no longer a secure field. No longer a field where you’d expect to have a stable long term employment or a place to make the big bucks and move on. AI is a threat on itself to IT/Gig jobs. There are some that sure will remain and be needed, but they will be limited because before AI if you needed 10, 20+ developers, now you might need 5 or even less. And that goes to a LOT of positions so the majority will be fired and will need to look for something else to do.
