Major digital labor platforms, also known as gig companies, operating in the United States misclassify gig workers as independent contractors, denying them labor rights.
I’m always disappointed in my friends when they use Uber for rides or food delivery. Or any other similar services like Lyft or Skip the dishes or whatever.
I prefer to order my food straight from the restaurants, many of whom have their own delivery service. Though less and less. Also the official Taxi services in my city now have an app similar to Uber. Prices may be higher sometimes, but they’re stable. Unlike Uber and their variable rates depending on demand.
Very good point. I think a lot of people dont know that yet. I’ll start informing my friends about that.
I joined a union for gig workers (among others) and they have successfully fought for gig workers in the past. I can only suggest to do this for everyone (either out of solidarity or pure self interest).
Together we will make this world a better place. :)
