The launcher gets stuck at 88% patching dat files and then it fails. I have tried different solutions I’ve read such as: using steam launcher, using standalone launcher trought lutris, using repair data option; I have tried deleting dat/datx files, deleting “downloads” and “forward” directories, limiting download speed of the game, changing game proxy option; I have tried diferrent versions of proton, protonge, wine. Nothing works. Please help me.
Update: Lotro launcher works if I use a VPN. Thank you all for helping me.
This post made me try the game, so thanks!
enjoy!
According to this old forum post it is often a file permission error:

You could always try giving the lotr directory a 2777 and see if that helps.Did’nt work :(
Maybe give this a try.
Sadly, it does not work either
Maybe try spinning up a windows vm. Install lotro and patch it. Then copy the game files over into the lotro linux install directory. Basically bypass the update process and see what happens.
Somehow it fails on windows too… gonna give up
I found out the launcher doesn’t fail when using a VPN. I guess is some kind of problem with my ISP and not a compatibility issue. Thank you for your help.
Sounds like it’s more of a problem with the software in general vs running it on Linux.
Could see if someone else was successful installing and get a copy of their files but that comes with is own risk.
There was something I read about the process stalling on windows and being told to hit resume but never seen windows like that on any version of windows I ever used. https://forums.lotro.com/index.php?threads/stuck-at-88-dat-patch-in-launcher.10223/
I’m running lotro via Lutris happily on Mint. Your case sounds like a permission problem somewhere as the launcher works.
This is farfetched I know but try a nuclear option and use another distro to install lotro via Lutris to a shared mount and then mount & run it from there in your distro.
yep, Lotro via lutris is the best way.
Steam via proton a close second.
What filesystem is in use where lotro files are stored?
lotro is in my /home which is XFS, but / is btrfs
Tried running it in Bottles? That’s usually my go-to for games that I can’t get to work.
