They’re very old fashioned these days, trick taking card games. When I was a kid, they’d put Hearts…puzzles in the newspaper, and ask what move should player X make in order to take the tricks with the information it gave you.
They were also mentioned a fair deal in Pride and Prejudice. People played them while chatting.
Might jus be less popular in the anglosphere. We have a lot of games here where you collect štihi (from german Stich) and everyone knows what is meant if you use the word.

Winning a trick is like winning a round. It’s just a card game term. I don’t think it’s so much old fashioned, more that card games are less popular.

I think of them as old fashioned because in my childhood people my grandmother’s age played them, and she was born in like the 1910s.
They just are not a thing people younger than me seem to even know.
There use to be bridge clubs and such but just not a thing here anymore

Spades is still popular in some circles, I haven’t played in a minute though. It’s been even longer since I’ve played Skat.
