If you’re willing to give Daybreak 1 a shot, you can jump right into it; almost all of it traces back to Sky 3rd and Crossbell, not so much Cold Steel. It’s a very different flavor. No promises for not being lost in the rest of the Calvard arc, but if you really like the vibe, depending on where you stopped in CS, you might just be able to catch up with summaries.
I’ve been tempted by Daybreak, but I’m still not sure if I want to resume playing Trails. There’s some building blocks that soured me heavily on the series (still, it’s less categorical than the “screw this” from some years ago.)
I stopped at the end of CS3, which was something of a last chance after being disappointed by CS2 and Azure (I’m ready to be crucified 😝). Didn’t even watch the credits, that cliffhanger ending felt like one slap too many…
