Ended up watching a movie from a few years ago called Slingshot… psychological drama set on a spaceship… kinda Meh If I’m honest.

I gave up on F1 about 8-9yrs ago… I knew when it went to sky they’d find a way to screw people over… Promised that everyone who got F1 for free would continue to do so… then offered a free upgrade and better pricing… and ripped it away without telling you… oh… the F1 channel… that’s be an extra 20 quid a month you fucking muppet.
I cancelled my sky instead, and as my partners mum still had it… used her sky go login to watch it on a PC connected to the TV… when the ripped that away too… I said Fuck F1 and never watched it again.
From what little news I’ve read since… I’ve not actually missed anything interesting.
It’s raining… seriously, it’s not stopped since Sunday… well, maybe a slight exaggeration… it has stopped for at least… 2-3hrs at a time… several times. But basically, it’s not dried out enough anywhere for 4 days.
The flood plains have flooded… the pedestrian paths and cycleway out into the countryside may already be impassable, the river through town is rising and the reservoir overflow has been struggling to keep up, flooding the river on another flood pain before it reaches town… where it actually has to flow under buildings.
It’s dark… it’s grey… and it’s fucking miserable.
I find myself wanting to crawl into bed at 8pm onwards… in fact it’s 8:40pm now… and I’m thinking… mmmm bed and a movie (not that sort you pervs… well… depends if I can convince the other arf with an early night too)… last night it was The Fifth Element… what classic from the 80’s or 90’s will it be tonight.
Suggestions on a postcard too… no… wait… comment below.

2·10 days agoReminds me of being a kid and making a wotsit (you might need to be from the UK to know what those crisps are) sandwich with cheese spread… and the cheese spread was there to stop the wotsits falling out.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•I hate it when people use pictures showing the condiments only on top of a hot dog.
3·10 days agoWhen I make a hot dog, I cut the bun open, but also hollow it out a little… this gives ample room for extras and allows you to actually ‘close’ the bun and avoid spillage.
He’s what the world needs more of, a person who’s not a racist, fascist loving piece of shit like most politicians are… like the UK currently has too much of, we need more left leaning people in power instead of the wankers we have who are in the pockets of corporations and serve their interests. We needs les of the bigoted pieces of shit grifters like reform, tory and labour and their flag shagging racist supporters.
Too many people just don’t give a fuck about who they elect and follow along like good little sheep to whoever makes the most noise about the current divisive trend (trans and immigrants at the moment).
Decorating a bedroom and found water damage to the window sill… could be a leak around the frame or some old damage from a window being left open in the past allowing driving rain in. Until I get it off (today’s job) and inspect underneath, I can’t tell. Could be a void in the cavity allowing some condensation below the sill… Can remedy that easily enough with some gap filler expanding foam.
Ordered a nice oak board to replace it (old one was cheap MDF), and will reseal around the frame… and hope that fixes the issue. Can’t finish the painting until the new board is in early next week (got a joiner friend coming to do it and the new skirting/architrave)
Then went away for 4 days from Thurs to Sun. House and dog sitting for my sister as her doggo is 13yrs old and struggling with arthritis and pancreatitis. Can’t really be lifted in and out of the car, so easier for us to go there than stress him out bringing him to us. Still got to walk him down to the beach a few times and then let him sleep/rest most of the day… and as she lives in an old blacksmiths forge converted to a cottage with modern extension at the back… they rely on a wood burner for a lot of the heat this time of year, so we relaxed in front of a nice warm fire every evening with a beer and a movie.
Weather was utter shite… perfect for snuggling up on the sofa in front of the fire, but still managed to go out a couple of times… mainly to get some fresh air even thought there was heavy rain and strong winds… and stop for lunch somewhere, even if it was just for coffee and cake overlooking the sea.
A lovely relaxing end to what was turning into an annoying and expensive week… decorating rooms in this house always throws up some extra annoyances where builders or previous owners cut corners or bodged things So 30% of each DIY job is fixing the screw ups.
Hope your week was better.

Ask UK@feddit.uk•Child abuser Ian Watkins has been murdered in jail... what's your thoughts?
3·1 month agoI saw them live in 2003 supporting Linkin Park, when I heard about the arrest and subsequent conviction and the true horror of his crimes… I destroyed the CD’s, I deleted the music from my computer.
I have never allowed their music to assault my ears again and never will.
I cannot and will not mourn such a piece of shit, and nor will I condemn the person who killed him… I’m not advocating that all paedophiles are killed, but I’m not going to be sad about a proven guilty and convicted being unalived.
I still sneak my own food and drink into the cinema when I go… it costs 1/4 of the price that way and the two of us can actually go and see a movie for less than £50 that way. When I was a teenager, you could actually buy 2 tickets & popcorn for less than £10 (90’s)… and we’d sneak a bottle of vodka in.

UK Politics@feddit.uk•UK media revels in hate after Manchester synagogue attack
9·2 months agoManchester police currently have a higher body count than the actual attacker with 2 dead to his 1… and for the bigots out there who love to scream ‘facts, figures and statistics’ to support their xenophobia…
MANCHESTER POLICE KILLED 100% MORE PEOPLE THAN THE TERRORIST DID!!! :)
OMG… I used to run a childrens after school project and we were full time during the school hols… So many times we’d organise outings to the lasertag place near us… Had no idea they still existed, it’s probably been almost 20yrs or so… lasertag, roller skating, those activity centres with slides, ropes, tunnels and ball pits… afternoon trips to the cinema to watch a Pixar movie in the summer hols and at least 3 times during the summer break… a big day out to a theme park, museums and other interesting places like cabury world where you can get the kids sick on chocolate samples after scoffing as many as they can and then putting them on a coach for the 2hr drive back… Didn’t do that trip again. :)
A bit meh… weather has been absolute dogshit all week… The wind and rain have started causing my early onset arthritis to play up and I’ve been struggling as a result to crack on with some DIY jobs I needed to finish. Then errands, running my elderly mum about for appointments because she decided to schedule appts in the same fucking place on 2 different fucking days… AAARRRGGGHHH!!! Then wanted me to take her to meet my sister on Friday 30 miles away.
However… here’s the upsides.
My step-niece had her 2nd child and 2nd boy. Finally finished the prep on the bedroom on Thurs evening, plasterer starts Monday… so painting should commence end of next week. I went out for brunch on Tues & Weds whilst waiting for her to finish her appointments… woohoo, 2 cooked brekkies in a row. I was able to sort out lifts for her for Thurs, so I didn’t have to interrupt my work yet again because she expects me to drop everything at her command (I don’t). Dropped her off to go to the cinema with my sister to see some Downton Abbey movie, and I went and got a nice coffee and some cake.
Came back home and played Cyberpunk 2077 for a few hrs this afternoon until my partner got home.
We’re now about to have an early night ;) and watch a little netflix… probably chill.
Yeah, they think they can avoid the fine by blocking the UK… but that won;t have any effect on their past failings to follow the UK laws.
All I can say is… good, imgur can fuck off and hopefully die.
A few weeks back they went on a mass banning spree too after a mass protest from users. I ‘could’ still access it as I use a VPN and have for the last 12-13yrs… the OSA affected me for 2 seconds, as I switched from a server in one country to another… But imgur went to shit a long time ago, bowing to chinese investors and censoring shit, then being bought by a toxic company known for degrading services and running them into the ground whilst pocketing as much cash as they get their hands on.
So imgur has been dying for many years, and this is just finishing it off.
Don’t fret, there are alternatives and they’re not corpo controlled by wankers.
I know that’s supposed to be a joke, but depending on the construction, you might have to build a new stud wall on your side, leaving a small 25-50mm air gap and then the stud wall with the acoustic insulation in it.

Ask UK@feddit.uk•Study says own brand butter is as good as brand name... do you agree?
2·2 months agoI buy Aldi spreadable butter, as well as their blocks of Welsh butter and pay about £3.50 for one of each… and can’t fault either one of them. If I bought the same stuff “branded” in any of the larger supermarkets, I’d be paying almost double that.
Likewise, I’m rather fond of the HP Fruity sauce… £2.50 a bottle or more… Supermarket branded variety… tastes the same, £1.10 a bottle.
I’ve switched from branded stuff to Aldi own brands a lot since the COL crisis a few years ago, that is still ongoing… Not noticed a single drop in quality. But even Aldi have hiked their prices a lot. Frozen beer battered haddock used to be £3.19, is now £4.79, fresh quality sausages used to be £1.79 (6 pack, not the paste filled 8 packs) for caramelised onion/pork/apple/lincolnshire/cumberland and are now £2.49.
My avg food bill for 2, each month used to be £200-220, including food, drink and cleaning supplies… it’s now £300-320, whilst cutting back on a lot of the luxury items, opting for cheaper things in some places or reducing the number of times we buy them… so steak one every 8 weeks instead of once a month. No fish and chips at home, only as a treat if we go out for a meal (not to a chippy as they’re all bad here).

It’s going to be a miserable and weepy end to the week. Tomorrow we have to say goodbye to a very good boy, the bestest of good boys. He’s 13yrs old, his hips have gone and he can barely stand now, he’s got cataracts and pancreatitis. He’s in constant pain and his legs can give out at random, and you hear him wince in pain every time he lays down. We’ve even had to start feeding him by hand as he’s laying down. He’s lost a lot of muscle mass over the last 6 months too, and we’ve tried everything the vets have suggested to make him comfortable and ease the pain. Pain killers, steroids, special food and so forth… But it’s time to ease his suffering and we’ve been agonising over the decision for weeks now.
The vet is going to come to the house and do it, less stress for our boy and he can be on his comfy bed, surround by his toys and us… and as he’s not been allowed any treats for ages due to the pancreatitis and some very boring foods… His breakfast tomorrow is going to be fit for a king, I made a beef stock from some huge beef bones I got from the butchers. That’s going to make a thick gravy to go with some steak and veggies… and I’ve bought the best treats I can for him.
