

Ah, not OP, my bad. The quotes were taken from the initial comment, which did hold that other countries supported it. I have seen this online often, conflating the Aghanistan war with the Iraq war.
I would say the Iraq war is as much a direct result of 9/11 as the surveillance state. The excuse was provided by the attacks, but the ideas were in place prior. The bipartisan support for the war was a direct result of the jingoism still present two years after 9/11, the war itself, well, “Bush 1 wanted to invade in his term.”
Except for all the empty houses.
