  • would rather watch it die so it can be replaced with real jobs that people can live off of

A faster way to do that: minimum wage laws that require people are paid a wage they can live off of.

The’ve tried the whole “let’s not pass laws to increase minimum wage, people will just not take jobs that don’t pay enough” for decades. Jobs still exist that pay below poverty (minimum wage).

If we agree that what they are doing is garbage and shouldn’t be able to exist, why are they arguing against doing something that would prevent it from existing?

Why can’t we just have a discussion without insults

Let’s be honest, “I don’t eat fast food so they should be allowed to pay slave wages” isn’t really a compelling discussion with nuanced talking points.

Why is it on the shoulders of the desperate to not take any job they can get, and on the shoulders of the desperate to not get whatever food they can afford and have time for in between their 3 jobs?
You know what would also kill the business model of “under pay and over work staff for low quality results then just replace them”? Laws preventing such behavior.

  • So what is the specific action that legally defines when a suspect goes from “not under arrest” to “under arrest”? After all, there are specific rights and actions allowed under one but not the other. So how do the suspect and the police know and legally define when that change takes place?

Could is possibly be… The reading of the Maranda Rights?

  • Your first comment:

Miranda rights don’t need to be read until the person in question is under arrest.

Implying he wasn’t under arrest at any point while he was in the McDonald’s because the complaint was no one read him his Miranda Rights.

    You now:

He was arrested when they searched the bag

Okay, so going by your earlier comment that is when he should have been read his Miranda Rights.

Actually, hold up a second here:

He was arrested when they searched the bag. Not when he was being questioned.

So the moment the police do an illegal warrantless search of his bag, that is the exact moment it becomes legal because the definition of under arrest is “when police are doing something that would be illegal if you weren’t under arrest”?

That is incredibly fucking convient that he’s not “under arrest” while being questioned (because it would be illegal to question him if he was) but is then immediately “under arrest” when his belongs are searched (because it would be illegal to search them if he wasn’t).

If what you are saying is true, then that is incredibly fucked up because apparently in the American legal system suspects exist in a super position of “under arrest” and “not under arrest” at all times until the police take an action that would be illegal in one of those cases. Then the super position collapses into the one that makes their actions technically not illegal until the police are done with that action, and which point the super position reasserts itself.

  • It is possible to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on a yacht

A massive waste of resources and damaging to the planet. Something a sociopath would acquire.

    billions on space travel

Cool. Let governments do that then. We don’t need to corporatize space.

Infinite Growth is good for board members and shareholders.

Infinite growth in a finite system is cancer. It kills the host every time

Growing the hoard can be it’s own game similar to idle games or gatcha games.

When the horde you’re growing is resources other people need to survive you can go fuck yourself. Go play a gatcha game instead.

  • And the goal post has been moved. We’ve gone from “he wasn’t technically under arrest” to “arrest and these specific questions are acceptable”. Weren’t you just complaining about a faux-legalistic perspective?

I don’t know what questions he was actually asked but don’t see the point in looking it up for the goal post to move again.

Also of note, you mentioned that they can search his bag without a warrant if it’s on his person when arrested. They searched his bag at McDonald’s. So he was arrested at the time.

  • They, at no point at the McDonald’s, ever read him his Miranda rights, even after informing him that he was under investigation and detaining him

So he wasn’t placed under arrest when they detained him? He wasn’t under arrest at any point while they were at the McDonald’s?

When is the specific point someone is under arrest? My understanding from people asking “am I under arrest or am I free to go” is the suspect is ‘under arrest’ as soon as they are no longer free to go.

  • If I had a billion dollars I wouldn’t work another fucking day in my life.

Billionaires have more money than they could ever spend, and spend so much time and effort trying to increase the size of the hoard and make sure they don’t have to pay an extra fraction of it in taxes. It’s a sickness.

You don’t become a billionaire without being mentally ill, and for some reason we think the mentally ill are the most fit to run corporations.

  • patenting, copyrighting, or trademarking concepts or mechanics in video games shouldn’t be allowed at all

It’s not allowed at all in board games. There’s a known issue that someone could completly copy the mechanics of a board game, and as long as they don’t copy the art or the exact text of the rulebook there is no legal means to stop it.

Boardgamers are aware of this, and agree that it is better for development of future games than if someone could own the idea of “rolling a dice”, so if knockoffs do come around they tend to quickly get called out and not purchased.

I don’t know how videogames managed to get different rules.

  • They couldn’t handle our freedom

    What does that mean?

Freedom of speech? People are being detained, arrested, and deported because they said things on their phones that are critical of the president.

Freedom of religion? People are being forced by law to follow the rules of “Christianity”.

Freedom of association? Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is being outlawed. Better not associate with minorities or “Libs” or you risk retribution.

Freedom to Travel? If you think being freely traveled to El Salvador counts…

Freedom of privacy? People are being harassed in bathrooms to “prove” their gender (how the hell do you do that?)

Life? People are being denied necessary life saving medical treatment due to that lack of Freedom from Religion we talked about earlier.

Liberty? People are being detained and deported without due process

Persuit of Happiness? LGBTQ people having their protections stripped away and need to hide who they are.

Other than the “freedom” to have people around you openly carrying deadly weaponry while shopping at a grocery store, what freedoms do Americans have that Canadians lack?
