In fact, as my tool also has layers, this subtle noise would compound with each additional layer added, until the noise was not subtle at all.

I received many bug reports about this, and it took me ages to track down the root cause, by asking users what browsers they were using and joining the dots.

I do worry that maybe I worded the popup poorly leading some more skeptical folk to worry my site was attempting to fingerprint them, which it is not.

Hi, developer of the site in question here. That popup exists to warn users that the fingerprinting protections, namely farbling, can cause minor amounts of visual noise to appear in their art. For a pixel art editor, this is not desired, and I received many bug reports about the behaviour, which lead to the popup pictured.

The following is just my own assumptions, take with a grain of salt.

Phones are often taken out to perform a quick task, then stashed back in a pocket/bag many times a day. As such, being able to unlock a phone quickly is a rather useful feature.

On the other hand, laptops are usually taken out to be used for larger tasks, and as such, do not need to be unlocked as often.

Fingerprint scanners add less value to a laptop than they do a phone.

I’m sorry, but your comments on the Steam Deck post certainly did not help with the hostility, as you were being quite hostile yourself.

In that post, one person made a snarky retort, and clearly you were understandably upset, but I would argue a good chunk of the hostility in that post comes from you. If anyone runs into this popup, make sure your uBlock Origin is up-to-date, and that you don’t have any other adblock extensions installed (disable the one in Enhancer for YouTube as well). Then, make sure you clear your filter lists’ cache in uBlock, and update them. This should allow you to block the popup. If it comes back again after a few days, repeat.

Display managers usually let you choose the DE when you log in.

I think usually if you use 1 DE per user, it works out fine.
